History[edit | edit source]

UTAIR was created by a group of Mechatronics students (John Wright, Cody Nguyen and Andrew McLean) in spring 2001 as part of their 4th year thesis. The purpose of the group was to organize a team to build robots and participate in the Robocup small size league. The group also featured other engineering students from various disciplines including electrical and computer engineering as well as computer science students. The team failed to qualify for the Robocup 2002 tournament but the group continued to operate years after. The group from 2001 to 2002 did create a few 2-wheeled robots with one robot being able to attack with the other defending.
